Leadership Team

Owen Gohlke

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Owen Gohlke joined Cirrus in December 2009 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Cirrus, Owen was the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Commercial Environmental Systems (CES), an international manufacturer of HVAC products. During his tenure he was instrumental in improving CES’s performance which more than doubled under his leadership.

Owen has led and participated in multiple capital raising activities and has been successful in obtaining bank financing, debt financing and equity financing. He has an MBA from the University of Texas and brings almost 25 years of experience in finance and accounting knowledge working with large manufacturers as well as public accounting experience obtained early in his career at Arthur Andersen.

Tom Arnold

Executive Director, North American Sales

Tom Arnold is the Executive Director of North American Sales for Cirrus Aircraft responsible for management of the North American sales team.

 

Tom joined Cirrus in 2009 as the Director of North American Sales. Prior to joining Cirrus, Tom was a seasoned executive with an over 30-year career in Fortune 1000 and start-up companies, many in the computer and technology industry such as ADEXS, Stearman Technology Group, Cadence Design and Clarify. 

An Airline Transport rated pilot for over 30 years with more than 4,000 flight hours, Tom has owned and flown many different types of aircraft from singles to twins, piston to turbine, land and amphibious. He even became a certified flight instructor so he could teach his three sons how to fly.

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Dale Klapmeier co-founded Cirrus in 1984 and currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer, responsible for active oversight of the company.

Dale, along with his brother Alan, has been the recipient of numerous aviation industry awards including the 2007 Dr. Godfrey L Cabot Award, the Experimental Aviation Association (EAA) 2007 Freedom of Flight Award, Airport Journal’s 2006 "Living Legends" Aviation Entrepreneurs of the Year, EAA August Raspet Air Safety Foundation 2005 Admiral de Florez Award and 2004 Ernst and Young Entrepreneurs of the Year for Manufacturing.

Passionate about expanding all forms of aviation, Dale is involved with many aviation boards and programs such as the Experimental Aircraft Association's Young Eagle Program and the Red Tail Project, which is restoring a Tuskegee Airmen P51 Mustang. As a private pilot, he has logged more than 4,300 hours of flight time. Dale holds degrees in business administration and economics from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.

Patrick Waddick

Executive Vice President/COO

Patrick Waddick is Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer of Cirrus Aircraft. Patrick joined Cirrus Design Corporation in 1988 contributing to the early engineering efforts on the model VK30 composite pusher-configuration aircraft. Transitioning from VK30 Chief Engineer to ST50 Project Engineering Manager, Patrick led a joint Cirrus and Israeli design team through to early flight testing stages.

 

Patrick began his professional affiliations first with AIAA at the University of Wisconsin, Madison as a student chapter Vice President. In 2004, he was the recipient of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Hap Arnold Award for Excellence in Program Management. Patrick is also a member of the AOPA and EAA aviation organizations. An active FAA Private Pilot since 1988, he holds a single-engine instrument land rating.

Patrick was educated at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Mechanics from the School of Engineering in 1989. During his degree program he completed a cooperative education internship with IBM Corporation in East Fishkill, New York.

William King

Vice President, Business Administration

William King is Vice President, Business Administration of Cirrus Aircraft. He grew up in Richfield, Minnesota, a suburb of the Minneapolis area and attended Saint Cloud (Minnesota) State University graduating with a double major in Political Science and Public Administration. Upon graduation he spent twelve years working in the public sector as a City Manager and Business Development Analyst for various cities throughout Minnesota before leaving the public sector for a career in the private business world.

Bill was initially hired by Cirrus in 1992 to assist in the relocation of the young aviation company’s business as well as develop a financial plan to allow for future growth. Bill accepted the position with Cirrus anticipating a two-year commitment, but the demands of the job took him into many new arenas. Now, Bill’s role at Cirrus includes oversight of administrative functions including the Departments of Air Safety, Facilities and Intergovernmental Relations.

Ian Bentley

Vice President and Managing Director of International Sales

Ian Bentley is Vice President and Managing Director of International Sales and is responsible for mapping the future of Cirrus’ business outside of the United States.

 

Ian joined Cirrus in 1997 as Director of Sales Support developing the delivery process and training system that has become an important part of a Cirrus owner’s experience. He then expanded that role as Vice President, Customer Relations to include development of the Cirrus Authorized Service Center network, Training Center network and Air Safety (accident investigation).

More recently, as Vice President of Products and Services, Ian created the strategies that led to what we recognize as the modern SR20 and SR22.

 

Prior to Cirrus, Ian held a variety of technical, sales, marketing and management positions in entrepreneurial computer software companies. He holds a degree in mathematics from the London University.

Jon Dauplaise

Vice President of Fleet and Special Mission Aircraft Sales

Jon Dauplaise is Vice President of Fleet and Special Mission Sales and is responsible for the strategy and performance of the global fleet sales team as well as the Training, Delivery and Certified Departments.

 

Jon joined Cirrus in December 2001 in the Flight Operations Department. He then transitioned through several roles at Cirrus including Corporate Flight Operations Manager, Regional Sales Manager of the Northern Plains and Alaska, Domestic Sales Director and most recently as Vice President of Domestic Sales. Through his time at Cirrus, Jon directed the development, startup and very substantial growth of the Cirrus Certified program.

Prior to joining Cirrus, Jon served 20 years in the Army and Army Reserve as an AH-64 Apache Helicopter Instructor Pilot and Aviation Officer. He is a Commercial/Instrument rated pilot, Helicopter pilot and Certified Flight Instructor.

 

Jon graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Criminology. It was in college that Jon got his formal initiation and start into sales, selling life and personal insurance while still a student.

Todd Simmons

Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Todd Simmons is Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing of Cirrus Aircraft. He is responsible for managing the Cirrus Aircraft brand globally and for all sales and marketing activities for the world's best-selling line of high-performance personal, small business and training aircraft.

 

Todd joined Cirrus in early 2008 as vice president of marketing and during his tenure has led a number of innovative growth initiatives aimed at both the current owner community and at new segments. In spite of challenging overall economic conditions during these efforts, the SR22 has continued to be the best-selling, four-seat aircraft in the world and its worldwide market share has reached an all-time high.

 

 

 

With more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and business leadership, Todd has held position in marketing development, international marketing communications and revenue management at a range of companies from boutique firms to Fortune 500 companies. His aviation experience includes work at Delta Air Lines and at ClubCrafters where he led sales and marketing efforts and later presided over the company.

 

An avid pilot, Todd holds a Bachelor Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

 

Paul Brey

Vice President, Product Development

Paul Brey is Vice President, Product Development for Cirrus Aircraft. He is responsible for engineering, experimental operations and program management for all aircraft models at Cirrus. Paul joined Cirrus 1996 as Chief of Structures for the SR20 and has served as Director of Design and Program Manager for the SR22 project, Director of Product Engineering, Program Manager for the G2 and G3 projects, Airframe Technical Fellow and Vice President, Design Engineering.

Prior to joining Cirrus, Paul worked in the military and commercial aircraft industry for 13 years, including the Boeing Company and a major commercial airline. He is an FAA Designated Engineering Representative with extensive experience in stress analysis, composite structures, damage tolerance and materials and processes. Paul has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota, is a Senor AIAA member and a registered Professional Engineer.

Advanced Metrology Specialist (1) Details SHARE:

Responsible for the development and implementation of metrology for manufacturing inspection. Uses input from design and manufacturing engineering to create inspection methods and provides feedback to improve product and tool designs. Oversees, develops and conducts inspections of aircraft components and tools using CAD and GD&T information with advanced measurement system equipment. Supports troubleshooting efforts to reduce manufacturing non-conformities. Demonstrates creativity and technical knowledge in developing inspection solutions. Provides oversight and instruction to other personnel using metrology techniques and equipment. Expected to work largely independently under the direction of a Quality Assurance manager. Qualifications: Associates degree in CAD and/or experience in creating/reading drawings with GD&T information. Leadership experience with managing/supervising a team. Paint and Body Technician (1) Details SHARE:

Prepares composite wings, horizontal stabilizers, fuselages, cowlings, control surfaces, and other structures for paint application (may prep an entire aircraft for paint). Prepares product for priming/spraying operation. Sprays surfaces of manufactured products with protective material, such as paint primers, finishing coats, or gel coat using a spray gun or “dump (gravity fed) gun” in a paint booth. Regulates paint sprayer width and pressure according to knowledge of painting and priming techniques. Removes excess material from surfaces of manufactured and purchased parts in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, processes, and procedures; resulting in a smooth and clean surface matching the surface requirements and shape of the drawings. Primarily utilizes air tools for purposes of high volume sanding/grinding. Fills voids or cavities and dents or repairs defects as necessary, manually applies body filler per procedures to re establish a smooth surface contour and finish. Repairs damaged metal and composite components, using pneumatic tools and knowledge of metal and composite repair techniques. Grinds, sands, and finishes excess filler to match required surface finish and contour. Applies masking tape and protective paper or barriers over parts and areas, which are not to be coated. May apply color transfers or registration numbers, or other lettering over the primary paint. Attention to detail required. Wears proper protective equipment during appropriate job functions. Complies with all paperwork, such as work instructions, that govern job duties. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Customer service position responsible for supporting Cirrus Aircraft owners by facilitating resolution of field needs, front-line support of Authorized Service Centers, and service development and growth in the assigned territory. A successful sales history and/or technical experience in general aviation or other high-end aviation/aerospace products or services is valuable. A current pilot’s license with instrument rating and, preferably, flight instructor ratings is preferred. Requires in-depth experience of sales/marketing techniques and financial principles. Ability to prepare comprehensive financial reports and summaries, and appropriately represent financial information. Ability to prepare and communicate detailed accounting information clearly and concisely, as well as organize work for maximum efficiency. Supplier Quality Engineer (1) Details SHARE:

Evaluates and manages suppliers to determine strategies and programs which provide greater product quality and efficiencies of company functions by performing the following duties. Gathers information to evaluate supplier processes in order to determine applicable quality and regulatory requirements are met. Develops strategies and programs that improve product quality and reliability. Applies various industrial and quality engineering problem-solving techniques to evaluate product quality and the recommended strategies and programs. Supports others in continuous process improvements, including overall quality management system development. Evaluates new and existing suppliers for ability to meet product quality and quality management system requirements through product and system audits (requires monthly travel). Issues corrective actions and provides proper follow-up for quality system and product nonconformances. Communicates company and quality assurance objectives and goals to suppliers. Provide team support to manufacturing, engineering and supply chain groups. Assist with supplier first article inspections. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in aircraft avionics and electrical systems with the ability to troubleshoot failures and suggest design and process improvements. Knowledgeable in the use of various problem-solving and quality engineering methodologies such as process mapping, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, statistical techniques such as Analysis of Variance, Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility, and Process Capability studies.

Tool Designer (1) Details SHARE:

Responsible for detail tool design and modeling for prototype and production aircraft. Performs detail tool design and modeling with direction from Tooling Engineer. Produces CAD models and drawings using ProE and bills of material. Tool types include, but are not limited to: metal and composite molds, drill fixtures, bond and assembly jigs. Assists with tool fabrication and assembly guidance; produces component and assembly work orders; and enters purchase requisitions. Qualifications: Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design and two to five years of related experience; or four to six years related experience and/or training. Experience with tool design preferred. Experience with composite tooling and manufacturing desired. Good analytical abilities, experience with metal machining, forming, riveting, and coating. Experience with composite fabrication techniques including wet layup, prepregs preferred.

Training Manager Field Support Assists Director in developing, organizing, delivering, and coordinating training for Cirrus Authorized Service Center Network, Fleet Operators, and Cirrus Field Service employees. Responsible for training administration, curriculum development, and teaching duties including: composite repair, aircraft systems, and avionics on Cirrus products. Qualifications: Associates degree or three to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) or Avionics Technician (AE.) Previous instructional experience preferred. Trainer must possess computer software skills.
